“Gone Too Soon”

You were only just beginning,

with bright eyes full of dawn—

a spirit stitched from laughter,

then in a heartbeat, gone.

No graying fur or slowing step,

no long and winding years—

just pawprints pressed in softened earth

and memories edged in tears.

You chased the sun with boundless joy,

each tail-wag pure and wide,

a loyal soul, a fleeting spark

who never left my side.

I wasn’t ready for goodbye,

I called—but you were still.

The silence held a thousand howls

I swear I feel them still.

They say time heals, but love like this

won’t fit in tidy lines.

You were my shadow, breath, and grin,

my clock that kept no time.

Too young to rest, too sweet to go,

yet peace you’ve surely found—

while I am left to walk alone

where once we walked as hounds.

But in each breeze, I find your trace,

in dreams, you chase and play—

you left too soon, but all you were

will never slip away.
